Get started with Ledger® Live

Ledger Live connects your Ledger hardware wallet to a powerful, user-friendly app. Manage assets, check balances, send and receive crypto, swap tokens, and access dApps — all while keeping your private keys protected offline on your Ledger device. Follow this guided setup to install Ledger Live, initialize your device, add accounts, and practice secure habits from day one.

1. Install Ledger Live

Download Ledger Live from the official site for Windows, macOS, or Linux. Run the installer and follow on-screen instructions. Avoid third-party downloads or links shared in messages.

2. Initialize your Ledger device

Power on and follow the device prompts to set a PIN. Write down the recovery phrase exactly as shown — this 24-word seed is the ultimate backup for your assets. Store it offline and never share it.

3. Connect Ledger Live

Open Ledger Live and use the "Add device" flow to connect by USB or Bluetooth (if supported). Ledger Live will guide you through pairing and account setup for supported blockchains.

4. Add accounts & sync

Add accounts for Bitcoin, Ethereum, and other supported assets. Ledger Live fetches balances and transaction history without exposing private keys. You can create multiple accounts per currency.

5. Approve transactions on-device

When sending funds, swapping, or interacting with a dApp, Ledger Live crafts the transaction and sends it to your device for you to verify and sign manually. This manual confirmation ensures security against malware.

6. Keep software & firmware updated

Regularly update both Ledger Live and your device firmware. Updates include security patches, new features, and support for recent assets. Ledger notifies you in-app when updates are available.
